Dermatology is the study of the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the skin. One in six patients visit a General Practitioner with a skin based problem.
Dermatologists are doctors who have specialised in the field of Dermatology, having undertaken four years of hospital based specialist training after completing their initial medical degree.
Lake Macquarie Dermatology offers professional, expert advice for all skin related problems. Our clinic caters for children of all ages as well as adults.
Our clinic utilises the most up to date equipment, including UVA/UVB light therapy machines for the treatment of eczema, psoriasis and other common skin conditions using ultraviolet light. We have an iontophoresis machine available for loan to patients to control excess sweating. We also provide patch testing for patients with contact dermatitis problems.
Digital photographs are utilised for patient records.
We have a Sciton Profile Laser and broadband light therapy machine. Our Dermatologists can assist with skin rejuvenation therapy using the Profile for conditions such as rosacea, acne, hyperpigmentation, vascular lesions including birthmarks, spider veins and scarring.
Our Dermatologists are experts in skin surgery techniques. Skin surgery is performed on site at the clinic using local anaesthesia. We have our own autoclave machine and sterilise all our instruments according to the Australian Standard.
Dermatologists are also experts in conditions of the hair and nails.
In most cases our patients are referred to us by their local General Practitioner. A referral however is not mandatory. Any person may make an appointment to consult with a Dermatologist without a referral, however Medicare will only provide a monetary rebate for the consultation if a referral is provided.
Patients who hold private health cover will only be covered by their fund if they are treated whilst they are an inpatient in a hospital.
